The London Transport Museum
Looking for a great day of family fun, then come and explore The London Transport Museum and the story of London’s 200 year old transport system.
Enter the London Transport Museum and be greeted by audiovisual recordings of transport systems from across the globe, then hop into the time machine (the lift) and get taken back to the eighteen hundreds. The capital’s first licenced public means of transport, the sedan chair is also on show. You will also find the beautiful horse drawn omnibus. Fast forward 33 years to the building of our first passenger railway from London bridge to Greenwich.
70 years on you will now be on the first floor which is home to some of the most exciting displays including the first underground steam-powered engine and a wooden Metropolitan Railway coach which got converted into electricity in 1901, (don’t just look at this display, hop on board)
All aboard! Discover the magic of London Transport Museum’s family play zone for children aged 0-7. A fleet of mini vehicles to drive, loads of uniforms to dress up in, role play in the lost property office and even show of their musical ability with the musical instruments on busking spots. The Baby DLR is great for infants with its interactive wall and building blocks that will not disappoint.
There is something for everyone at the London Transport Museum so head over and enjoy the journey through history. You will even get the chance to sit in the driver’s cab of a red bus and guide a Northern Line simulator through tunnels and up to platforms.
Adults beware, The London Transport Museum will bring the big kid in you! 🙂
